Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
If you need a consultation, are experiencing an employee emergency, or you need to make a formal employee referral, ESPῩR can help. Management Consultants provide unlimited consultation for KPWA managers and can help with formal referrals for employees who have performance issues or are experiencing serious problems such as suicidal thoughts or substance abuse.
Making a Formal Referral
When you request a consultation, the Management Consultant will help determine if the employee is appropriate for referral to the EAP, review documentation of job performance deficiencies, and discuss ways to approach the employee regarding performance problems and referral to the EAP. You will be advised on how to respond if the employee refuses the EAP referral.
- Contact ESPῩR at 888-678-0937 before confronting the employee.
- Confer with your Employee and Labor Relations Consultant (ELRC) or HR Business Partner (HRBP) to ensure that every step of the referral process is in agreement with Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures.
It is detrimental to the employee, their co-workers, and the manager to ignore or cover up unacceptable behavior. HR and EAP are available to partner with managers. A delay in confronting problems can result in the manager feeling more frustrated with the employee, making it more difficult to be supportive. It also hurts the employee because their personal and job problems will likely worsen with time when they’re not addressed.
